Mission Statement

With the rapid pace of CBCT development, and with new manufacturers and models coming on the market every year, it is clear that this technology is assuming an increasingly important role in dental diagnosis. CBCT provides volumetric scans of the patient’s head that can be visualized in a variety of ways, both in 2D and 3D. The volumetric data set obtained from CBCT can be utilized in diagnosis and treatment planning in several disciplines in dentistry such as prosthetic, endodontic, orthodontic, implants, and maxillofacial surgery.
Developed and maintained by Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologists, MARCILAN is a crucial tool for your daily training and work with cone beam CT. Several modules were developed that covers many important aspects of CBCT with an assessment module at the end to evaluate and give you a feedback of your learning progress. We hope you will enjoy your time here and benefit from this site.

About

MARCILAN started as a master thesis project in medical imaging (option oral imaging) in 2005. There was no similar project on the market at that time and that continues to be the case today. MARCILAN offers a complete educational solution to address the needs of CBCT education in dental practice and institutions.

We didn’t want to create another outdated website that offers only text and images to its users. This is in our opinion, no different from reading a book  in the first place. We opted to follow the best practices and focused on the use of multimedia such as: animationd and videos. Couple that with interactivity from javascripts and Flash and you have much better educational experience. Web 2.0 standards were the foundation when we planned our design. There has been much development going on in the background. We keep improving the site and keep adding new functionality, enhancement, and new material as we see fit.

In Education

MARCILAN is currently used as part of dental students curriculum at:
