Adobe Opens iPhone to Flash Developers

Adobe Max 2009

Yes, you heard it right! Finally you’ll be able to run Flash based apps directly on your iPhone. This is one of the best exciting news coming from Adobe during the Max conference this year. The iPhone has been one of the best if not the best selling mobile phone on the market. There are many great applications created for the iPhone, with over 2 billion apps downloads from the app store. However, Flash support has been lacking from day one thanks to Apple. Currently, there is no web plug-in to run Flash Player 10.1 on the iPhone

Over 85% of the content on the web uses Flash to create rich internet application or add interactive features. There are many great apps and games built using Flash with over a million developers out there creating content using Flash and I’m on of them. Programming apps on the iPhone is not a trivial task, it requires getting yourself familiar with programming with objective C using xcode and cocoa framework, and you can only program for the iPhone under a Mac. This soon will change thanks to Adobe. By using Flash Professional CS5, you will be able to use Actionscript 3 (AS3) to create interactive Flash content then publish your content to run on the iPhone and the iPod touch. Everything is compiled to run natively under the ARM processor of the iPhone. Your app can then be submitted to Apple for approval and once it is approved, it will be on the app store.

Flash CS5 is scheduled to be released in April 2010 with the beta version coming later this year. Once we get our hands on the beta, we will start testing  the anatomy module and make it run under your iPhone or your iPod touch. So hang in there for now. Head to the link to learn more.
